JAMMU, Apr 29: Police authorities have placed in-charge Police Post Hattli Morh, Kathua Sub Inspector Rakesh Jamwal under suspension for his alleged role in abetting bovine smuggling. The development came following the startling revelations made by the four arrested bovine smugglers.
Sources told Early Times that during questioning the arrested bovine smugglers told police that they collected bovine animals from Hattli Morh, which were to be taken to Srinagar for slaughtering. Today's development took place in the backdrop of bovine laden truck burn issue in Samba which took place a couple of days back.
Additional SP Kathua Yogeshwer Sharma has been entrusted the responsibility and he shall prepare the inquiry report within prescribed time for further disposal. SSP Kathua, Mohan Lal confirmed suspension of in-charge Police Post Hattli Morh, Kathua and said that further inquiry in this connection has been initiated.
The suspension of the police officer triggered protests by the residents of the Hattli Morh and they demanded revocation of suspension order with immediate effect.
Led by Mahinder Singh Chauhan, Sunny and Gulshan, the protestors criticized the department for suspending the in-charge Police Post Hattli Morh.
"His suspension is ordered following Ghagwal Truck burning case after a mob released animals from the clutches of the smugglers," the protesters said and added, "Department is targeting the in-charge of Police Chowki Hattli Morh."
Pertinently, on Sunday a truck carrying bovines was burnt by angry mob at Londi Morh under the jurisdiction of Gagwal police station. After the incident people held protest demonstration against the police alleging police's hand in glove with people engaged with the illicit trade. The incident occurred when the people were holding protest against PHE department for its failure to cope up the supply of water.
While protest was in progress, a truck bearing registration number JK02L 1613 carrying bovines passed by, triggering protestors to take the shape of mob. They set the truck on fire after rescuing the animals. Where as bovine smugglers, reportedly four in number, were rescued by police from being roasted alive in the truck. Samba police after the incident, lodged FIR against the bovine smugglers and taken up investigation.
