Coalition creates ‘terror ghost’ to retain Srinagar
4/29/2014 11:31:43 PM
Shakeel A Khan
SRINAGAR, Apr 29: Plans of the coalition parties seem to have worked effectively as the 'terror ghost' has appeared again that too during the election days.
The government machinery is on its toes with the police busy in arresting the youth and this way the sense of fear is being created on the eve of polling for the Srinagar Lok Sabha seat. It was quite expected that the people in power will never let the Srinagar seat go away as a means of face saving. The coalition is having no problems with the poll boycott mood of the Srinagarites as it will not harm them.
Srinagar is the face of Kashmir and the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir as well. The parties in power will try hard to win this seat by whatever means to give something to cheer about for the party workers who have been disheartened the way things have gone so far.
"The mainstream parties like National Conference are looking panicky as the polling for the Srinagar Lok Sabha seat, which is politically very sensitive, is going to take place on April 30.
This particular seat is very crucial for the survival of NC and for that purpose the party can go to any extent," said Bashir Ahmad a PDP worker from Srinagar.
It will not be wise to say that the people of Srinagar are against the elections but they say that the hate for the elections is because of the wrong policies of the governments at the centre from time to time.
Some people while sharing their ideas with the Early Times said that voting or boycott of the voting will have no impact on the outcome. They said that Jammu & Kashmir is directly ruled by the home ministry and it will have the final say on as to which party should win.
These people went on saying that the hate for the elections in Kashmir in general and particularly in Srinagar is because that the bitter memories of the rigged election of 1987 are still fresh in the minds of the people.
It lies in the hearts of people that the ongoing parliamentary elections in Kashmir will not be fair because the created tense situation in the valley prior to the polling is testimony to the fact.
According to them, fair election is a dream for Kashmiris which they will never realize.
Experts are of the opinion that paying no attention to the changing mood of the people is for sure to breed more violence which will be a setback for the people of Kashmir.
