JAMMU, Apr 29 : National Secular Forum (NSF) today staged protest in favour of Bar Association Jammu, which was observing indefinite strike against thrashing of an advocate by Station House Officer Gandhi Nagar. Addressing media persons, NSF City president Amit Sanotra said that advocate Harshvardhan had gone to market on scooter for purchasing some household items on April 16 and when he reached Shivaji Chowk Jammu, SHO Police Station Gandhi Nagar abused and thrashed him. Moreover, ASI and PSO of SHO had also used rough language against him in full public view, he said, adding that the attitude of police was totally undemocratic and uncalled for. Castigating the undemocratic functioning of police personnel of Gandhi Nagar police station, NSF president said that four months back, an FIR was lodged against some unknown persons for stealing tyres of the JURSEA president from outside the Nehru hostel. "Another FIR was also registered by Jammu University authorities, against some unknown persons for stealing answer scripts of M.Phill students of Dogri department. The answer scripts were later found around a month back, but so far the culprits, which had orchestrated the entire drama are still roaming free", he said and alleged that from the functioning of Police department, it has become crystal clear that Police was in actual words, hand in glove with the thieves and criminals and for public-show, it harassed innocent people of state. NSF appealed Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to personally intervene in the entire episode and directed DGP to immediately take a stern action against SHO Gandhi Nagar, his driver as well as some other constables who were involved in the entire episode, to save Jammu and Kashmir from becoming a police state and to save the democratic values. |
