| Army jawan guns down two colleagues, shoots self | | | Early Times Report
RAJOURI, May 25: Over a dispute while taking lunch, a soldier of JAK Li unit gunned down a Havildar and a JCO and also committed suicide at a forward post in Poonch district on Saturday. Sources in defence said that Naik Darshan Lal resident of Parlhad Pur in Jammu was posted at Maidan post in Digwar sector in Poonch district and was manning the Maidan forward post along with Subedar Chamail Singh resident of Kathua and Havildar Ranjodh Singh resident of Buthiyal in Jammu district. At about 1 pm all the three were enjoying lunch after duty hours and were discussing some issues. Reportedly during discussion a dispute arises between Naik Darshan and Hav Ranjodh Singh which led to physical scuffle between the two and in a fit of rage Naik Darshan opened fire on Ranjodh and killed him on spot . Subedar Chamail Singh who witnessed the firing incident tried to snatch the INSAS gun from Naik Chamail but he was also hit with bullets by the Naik and he also succumbed to injuries. Subedar Chamail also received bullet injuries and before other soldiers posted in the area could reach the spot one of them died. Apprehending legal action on part of police and army authorities Naik Darshan Lal also committed suicide with his official gun. Sources said that one among the three died on way to hospital while being rescued by the colleagues. The bodies of all the three soldiers were later brought to army hospital by the police and unit officers and after legal formalities police conducted postmortem after calling doctors from the civil hospital. At the time of filing this report the bodies were still lying in the army hospital. A police party also rushed to the incident site for legal formalities and recording the statement of other soldiers posted at forward post. "Police was informed by the unit officer about the incident and it has started legal formalities after taking control of the bodies. Police is in touch with the unit officers to know but actually had lead to this tragic incident," said AK Attri, DIG Rajouri -Poonch police range. |
