Early Times Report

Jammu, May 25: As the National Conference working President, Omar Abdullah has started the process of introspection after the poll debacle but limiting it to Kashmir valley only may prove fatal for him in areas of Jammu region where NC has got better vote share in 2008 Assembly elections.
Few areas in Chenab valley, Rajouri and Poonch districts have remained NC's stronghold since long and it was only after 2002 elections that few constituencies, NC started to lose.
Now, when Omar Abdullah is saying that he needs to learn as how NC faced the worst ever poll debacle ahead of the Assembly elections, addressing issues of people of these sub-regions of the state are must.
If the things continue to prosper for People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kashmir valley, where it grabbed all three Lok Sabha seats, it will be very difficult for NC to regain the lost ground. At that point of time, people of Chenab valley, Rajouri and Poonch district could prove life lines for NC if the Chief Minister wishes.
But during past more than five years of Omar Abdullah's rule in the state, it has been observed that Chenab valley, Rajouri and Poonch districts have been the worst example of discrimination by the NC led government. The Chief Minister never stood by people of these areas when they needed him the most.
Whether it is the May 1, 2013 earthquake, followed by more than 100 aftershocks or torrential rains which disturbed the road network in entire Chenab valley, Omar Abdullah has preferred to keep a distance.
Then comes the Rajouri and Poonch districts, who were shown the promised much things by United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the centre by announcing a railway line but this only remained on paper and never came into existence. The Chief Minister didn't take any step to convince Centre to made this railway line a reality.
Now, it is not only that Kashmir valley will give Omar the mandate again to rule the state. If he wants to regain the chair, he must come out of Valley and address issues of people of these sub-regions as well.
