| Where is Devender Singh Rana? | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 25: Chief Minister's former advisor and National Conference provincial president for Jammu, Devender Singh Rana has most probably gone into hiding after NC worst ever performance in the recently concluded Parliamentary elections. Devender was Omar's darling for quite some time and is held responsible for misleading the Chief Minister on various occasions. Senior in the party hold him responsible for most of the wrong decisions taken by Omar which include sidelining of some influential seniors. Insiders said that Rana exercised so much influence on Omar that he ignored calls of seniors like Ali Mohammad Sagar and his Finance Minister. NC Rajya Sabha member, Rattanpuri took a dig at Rana in 2011 on the birth anniversary of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah. The broadcaster turned said NC was run by political novices who had suffocated the veterans in the party. "Today's National Conference is not strong because the 'rats' have taken over after actual heirs of the party have gone into hibernation", he said. Hitting hard at Rana, he said, "No Rana, No Maharana and no Maharaja were part of the movement that we call National Conference." Rattanpuri was confronted by Rana during the working committee meeting of the party. "He wanted to teach me a lesson when I tried to present the true picture of NC in the Chief Minister's office," he said. Rana had grown increasingly important. He was present everywhere much to the discomfort of some senior Ministers. He did not even hesitate planting stories against some of them in local newspapers. The agitation, NC leaders believe, cut Rana to size. Devender Rana is to Omar Abdullah what Ashok Jaitley was to Dr Farooq Abdullah. Jaitley was the master and senior Ministers had to listen to him. Omar is no different. Rana is the shadow Chief Minister and runs the show. Farooq Abdullah did not listen anything against his `friend'. He derived vicarious pleasure on seeing the honour of his colleagues getting trampled in Jaitley's chamber. Omar says `take the file to Rana Sahib.' But the flamboyant Rana, most probably has gone into hiding after the election results declared on May 16. His jubilant adversaries have plans to publish a missing report to trace out his whereabouts! Some of them were heard singing the famous Bollywood song: `Na Mou Chupa kay Chalo……." |
