KUPWARA, May 25: Clashes erupted between two groups of mainstream political parties, after LS poll results were declared for Baramulla-Kupwara Parliamentary constituency on May 16. Restrictions are in place to thwart any untoward incident in Kalarosa area of North Kashmir's Kupwara district today.
According to sources, a man, who was injured in a group clash after LS poll results on May 16, died in Sheri Kashmir Institute of Medical Science (SKIMS) late Saturday evening after battling for life for 9 days.
"Mohammad Shafi Ganie resident of Kalarosa Kupwara was injured in a group clash was admitted in skims in a critical condition on May 16 and was in a coma, Ganai on May 17 underwent a major surgery and was battling for life," sources said. It is pertinent to mention here that two persons had died and 16 got injured when a Police vehicle overturned during a clash between the followers of the two mainstream political parties, the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference (JKPC), and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kupwara district of north Kashmir, on May 16.
The supporters of the two parties attacked each other at Varsun village of Kupwara district when the PDP followers were celebrating Muzaffar Hussain Beig's victory in the Parliamentary elections in Baramulla-Kupwara constituency. The PC supporters, who were upset over their candidate Salam Ud-Din Bajard's defeat, reportedly attacked the PDP victory revelers when they were returning to home.
Slogans and extensive use of firecrackers reportedly ignited the group clash. In which 16 men were injured and later two died when a Police Rakshak vehicle overturned, hitting a number of the people during the clashes. Two of the critically injured were rushed to a Srinagar hospital.
Abdul Rashid Bajard and Abdul Rashid Ganai both 4o-year-old, were hit by the SHO's Rakhshak and they died on the spot and over 20 PDP supporters were injured when the PC workers, apparently angry over the victory celebrations, attacked them "without any provocation".
Meanwhile, Kalarosa Police Station PSI Tashie Gaylston said "No curfew has been imposed but some restrictions are in place to maintain law and order, "while as he has confirmed the death of Mohd Shafi Ganie of Kalarosa Kupwara.
