| Can senior Abdullah play the savior? | | `NC has many leaders but no leadership' | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, May 25: It is just very recently when Farooq Abdullah, president National Conference ruled himself out for his role in the future politics citing his old age as the main reason. Not only this, he went on saying that Omar, his son is a young and dynamic leader, capable of running the party. But elder Abdullah's experiments failed on the ground as it could not prove its representative character given its poorest of the performances in the 2014 Parliamentary elections as it was given a white wash in Kashmir valley by People’s Democratic Party. No politician should be ruled by the imagination. Sensible politics makes a person to touch the sky and the ill one crashes him to the ground. The results of the recently concluded parliamentary elections are the living and fresh example of it as Farooq Abdullah lost the Srinagar seat for the first time. The glittering interiors of the Parliament house will be very much in the mind of NC president. He would have not imagined his shameful exit in the wildest of his dreams from this lawmaking house. The NC chief is in deep shock unable to find faults with him or not willing to do so apprehending further division among the rank and file of the party. "The swearing in ceremony of Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister of India will be the moments of discomfort for NC as the pictures of the elected candidates from the PDP will be displayed on the media, both electronic and print. How painful these moments will be, is understandable to all," was a consensus opinion of some Valley people.. Right now the ship of the NC is in the midst of the storm crying for help as the ranks and files of the party are divided. A simplest of the mistakes at this crucial juncture can make the ship to sink with no chances of recovery. Some quarters of the party prefer big Abdullah over his son, Omar for the post of Chief Minister. A group of people at Srinagar said "Omar left the affairs of the party to Nasir Aslam Wani from Kashmir and Devender Singh Rana from Jammu against the wishes of the party big guns which in turn inflicted damage to the party instead of repairing it," These people went on saying that the taking over the party by these provincial chiefs, the party lost contact with its grass root level workers. This created distances between the party and the workers. Not only this, some blue eyed persons exploited this party for their personal means and the result is in front of all. The tragedy that lies with National Conference is that many people trace their identity to this party but there is no one who takes pains for it. It has got many leaders but none has got the leadership qualities which has taken a heavy toll on the party. |
