| Restore tele ties across LoC' | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart seem to have more economics than politics on mind. While political commentators see enhanced economic relations between the two neighbours in near future, politics and diplomacy, according to them is going to take a back seat for the time being. Professor Gul Muhammad Wani who teaches Political science at Kashmir University said the `irritants' may come up for discussion later. Similar views have been held by Professor Noor Muhammad Baba. "The political issues have been left aside for the time being because the relation between the two countries was almost frozen. While the thaw has been hailed by one and all, the political experts expect a strong CBM from the two leaders as a goodwill gesture They have demanded restoration of tele-ties between this part of Kashmir and the Pakistan administered Kashmir. Pertinent to mention, telephonic links between the state and Pakistan administered Jammu Kashmir were severed in 1990 when militancy commenced. Strangely enough, the snapping of telephonic ties have not helped much as nothing has been done to stop incoming calls from Muzaffarabad and other important towns on other side of the LoC. "The snapping of ties also makes no sense in the internet age when you have the world at your finger tips", said a Jammu Kashmir Bank employee whose father was externed from the state for political reasons way back in 1958. "I want to see my father's grave who died in Muzaffarabad two years ago. I have been denied permission of boarding the bus. However, I chat with my relatives through the internet", he said. |
