SRINAGAR, May 27: Astounded by the statement of Jitendra Singh, the newly inducted Minister in Narendra Modi's Cabinet that BJP was in the process of repealing Article 370, politicians have reacted sharply stating that abrogation of Article 370 would mean end of accession with India.
Within minutes after the statement of newly made Minister of State, state Congress Vice President
Ghulam Nabi while talking to Early Times said, "Time has come that BJP should explain its 'ACHE DIN' phenomena. Narendra Modi and BJP office bearers were chanting ACHE DIN and now when they have just taken oath, their people have started issuing controversial statements. If they talk of Abrogation of Article 370 then Accession with India itself ends, so people like Dr Jitendra Singh should first think and then talk like this."
According to Communist Party of India Marxist (CPIM) state secretary and convener of third front of Kashmir, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami "It is merely a vote bank politics by BJP to use Article 370 as a tool in Jammu region for upcoming Assembly elections, they should not issue such controversial statement, instead of issuing statements for the sake of statements they should read article 1 of Indian constitution." According to reports Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Speaker, and National conference leader, Mubarak Gul has said that there is no provision which can repeal article 370 and added that it's impossible to repeal article 370 without the consent of people of the state. Mubarak Gul said that 'it is impossible as abrogation of article 370 needs consent of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly and the article which guarantees a special status to Jammu and Kashmir acts as bridge between India and Pakistan."
As the statement of Dr Jitendra Singh appeared in national Media, social networking sites Facebook and Twitter saw flood of reactions from people of different walks of life in Kashmir which include politicians, writers, social activists and students. Pertinently speaking to the media after taking charge as Minister, Jitendra Singh who was elected from Udhampur-Doda seat said.
"The process of repealing Article 370 has started. We are speaking to all stakeholders. The BJP has won more than half of the seats from Jammu and Kashmir."
Jitendra Singh has earlier also announced publically that BJP would go for a referendum on the position of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir soon after they form their Government at centre.
