| Ailing health sector in Rajouri | | PHCs,CHCs, DH lack staff; face scarcity of medicines | | Early Times Report
RAJOURI, May 27: Many government Public Health Centers (PHCs), Community Health Centers (CHCs) and hospitals at various towns including District Hospital (DH) at Rajouri have been running short of essential medicines including Glucose and Bandage. District hospital also needs Medical Help as out of 53 posts of Medical Officers (MOs) and Specialized doctors, 21 are lying vacant. To avoid any fury of the people in the delay in treatment in case of emergencies or to the patients of influential people doctor at present prefer to shift the patients to government medical college hospital at Jammu despite the facts that maximum refereed cases can easily be treated at this hospital. The people of Rajouri city and many parts of the district have named the district hospital as 'Referral Hospital'. In the absence of specialized doctors now the patients and their relatives either prefer to go to private clinics being operated in the vicinity of district hospital by the retired local doctors who also reportedly attending the patients in the district hospital during working hours and guiding the patients to get admission in their clinics/private hospitals. Though the Health authorities don't agree that shortage of doctors hampering the working in the district hospital yet the figures provided by them refute their claims. As per the figures provided by the district hospital authorities the revenue collected from the admission of the patients in the month of December 2013 was Rs 7 lakh which came down to approximately Rs 3.5 to Rs 3.14 lakh in the months of January to March and it was Rs 1.66 lakh in the month of April, 2014. Why the patients not prefer to admit themselves in the District Hospital when asked by the reporters, Taj Mohi-ud-Din, Minister for Medical Education had no specific answer but said that he will find out the reason from the hospital authorities. Minister was on tour to Rajouri few days back to inspect the infrastructure for the commencing of maiden classes in the recently opened MBBS College at Rajouri. Acute shortage of essential medicines and Glucose in the government Health institutions has badly affected the poor people in far flung areas who even can't afford treatment in the district hospital. Health centre at Moghla in Kalakot tehsil despite shortage of medicines and glucose also waiting for the appointments of sanctioned staff included doctors and Paramedical staff. Manzoor Hussain, PDP leader claimed that the patients admitted in this health center have been asked to purchase Glucose and medicines from the market. "In most of the cases the patients are very poor and they can't purchase the required medicines from market and preferring to turn to so called 'Hakims' and traditional treatments" said Manzoor. When contacted by the reporters Dr Suresh Gupta, Block Medical Officer (BMO) said that he was not aware of shortage of Glucose and medicines and it was so soon the efforts will be made to restore the supply in the health center. |
