| DHS organizes Medical Education programme | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 30 : To observe World Tobacco Day falling on May 31, Divisional Non Communicable Diseases Cell (NCD), Directorate of Health Services Jammu in collaboration with Government Hospital Sarwal Jammu organized Continuing Medical Education Programme for doctors at Government Hospital Sarwal. Director Health Services Jammu, Dr. Baljeet Singh Pathania was the chief guest on the occasion. The theme of the programme was 'Free Thirty Minutes for Tobacco Free India'. Dr. B.S. Pathania while speaking on the occasion emphasized the need to generate awareness among masses about the ill effects of Tobacco and ways to curb down the tobacco consumption through implementation of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA). He said that about four thousands chemicals are used in preparation of tobacco products, of which 250 are more hazardous not only to the health of smokers but also affect the health of second and passive smokers. Dr. Shahid Moghal, State Programme Officer NCD told about the aims and objectives of organizing Continuing Medical Education Programme. Dr. Bhawan Langer gave the brief introduction of the programme as well as this year's theme for World No Tobacco Day. The theme is Raise Tobacco Tax, Decrease Death and Disease. |
