| Is JU buckling under pressure? | | | Arun Singh Jammu, May 30: The students pursuing M.Phil in Dogri department, whose answer scripts had gone missing nearly five months back and later resurfaced in mysteriously, face an uncertain future as Jammu University authorities have not conducted re-exams, allegedly under pressure from a political group. Sources told Early Times that it has been more than five months since that episode, but till date the authorities failed to conduct the re-exams of the said paper which is frustrating the students. "Despite the fact that the FIR has been lodged in the case and the police inquiry is going on besides an internal inquiry, re-exams have not been conducted due to the pressure being built up by a particular political organization on JU administration to achieve their vested interests in the Dogri Department," they said. They further said that from the day the issue came into light, this particular political group, which projects itself to be the well wisher of the scholars, has hijacked the issue for its personal benefits and is forcing JU authorities to act against the HoD so that it could adjust their blue eyed in the department. "These 10 students of M.Phil have become the first casualty of the blackmailing tactics being used by this particular group backed by ruling National Conference, as they are still waiting for their re-exams to be conducted," sources informed. Sources further disclosed that earlier all the M.Phil students had given their consent to the HoD for re-exams of the missing answer scripts in written but later this particular group interfered in the matter and asked the authority not to conduct the exams and exerted pressure on JU administration to remove head of the department. One of the M.Phil scholars preferring anonymity said "There is a faction within the department, including scholars and faculty members, which is being backed by this particular political group and working according to their plan." He further said that a female student among M.Phil students is the cousin of one of the member of this political group which is using her to execute their plans. But amidst all the controversy, the fate of other students continues to hang in balance. |
