JAMMU, May 30: Anil Kumar of Tawi Trekkers J&K won the coveted men's title in the 14th J&K State Sport Climbing Championship which concluded today at Sprawling Buds School, Chinore, here with the holding of prize distribution function. In a close contest with defending champion, Shashikant and another upcoming climber Aman Arora, Anil displayed good technique and temperament to clinch the title. Shashi and Aman Arora had to be content with second and third place respectively. However, Aman Arora came back strongly in speed competition and became the new speed climbing champion upsetting his more fancied senior climbers, Shashi and Anil. The most interesting contest was witnessed in the girls' category wherein Shilpa Charak of Shining Star High School, Jammu dethroned the defending champion, Bindia Sharma of Udhampur. Bindia and Muskan Abrol claimed the second and third place respectively. In girls speed event, defending champion Bindia lost to Muskan Abrol of Jammu. Shivani claimed the second spot and Bindia was relegated to the third spot. Other Results: Lead climbing: Boys: Hardev Singh, Ist; Aman Dogra, 2nd and Ashish Thakur, 3rd. Women: Pallavi Sharma, Ist; Sakshi Magotra, 2nd and Ambreen Fatima, 3rd. Speed Climbing: Women: Pallavi Sharma, Ist; Sakshi Magotra, 2nd and Ambreen Fatima, 3rd. Boys: Mrityunjay Sharma, Ist; Aman Dogra, 2nd and Ashish Thakur, 3rd. In the valedictory function, Member Legislative Assembly (MLA, Ashwani Sharma was chief guest, who distributed prizes among the winners. A total of about 200 climbers from various districts of the state participated in the two-day championship which was sponsored by J&K State Sports Council. Shawetica Khajuria, a national Judge in sport climbing was the President of Jury who was well supported by technical personnel deputed by Indian Mountaineering Foundation North Zone Committee. Prominent among others present on were Ram Khajuria and Yogeshwar Kumar, Sumant Singh Jamwal, Rahul Sharma and Puja Sharma, Navneet Gupta, Vishav Mohan Sharma, Ashwani Katoch, Mehraj ud Din, Fazal Ahmad, Mrigank Kaushal, Rahul Sharma, Satish Bhan and Sonam Sidharth. |
