Cabinet raises retirement age to 60 yrs, Upper age limit for entry into Govt service raised by 3 yrs

SRINAGAR, June 3: After reversing the 2011 Recruitment policy immediately after the Lok Sabha poll debacle Omar Abdullah led alliance govt today approved enhancement in the prescribed age of retirement on superannuation in the case of Government servants in service on 01.06.2014 or appointed on or after that date, from the present 58 years to 60 years.
The state cabinet which met here under the chairmanship of Omar Abdullah took the decision after evolving consensus among the alliance partners. Ironically, after the cabinet meeting the leaders of the congress and National conference separately took credit for the landmark decision in separate media conferences.
The cabinet also enhanced upper age limit for entry into Government service against all posts, meant for direct recruitment, other than those filled through the Combined Competitive Examination, conducted by the Public Service Commission, shall, with effect from 1st January, 2014.
This shall, however, not apply to the posts already advertised, for which the last date, fixed by the recruitment agencies, has expired.
Recruitment against the posts, which have been advertised before 01.01.2014, shall continue to be governed by the age applicable at the relevant point of time.
In another decision, the Cabinet with regard to the demand of the Employees' Unions for the regularization of casual/temporary/need based labourers, engaged after 31.01.1994, ordered that all the Departments shall submit the requisite details to the Finance Department by the end of June, 2014 in order to enable the Cabinet Sub-Committee, headed by Finance Minister, to prepare an appropriate policy in this regard.
Ahead of attending the cabinet meeting Chief Minister has given clear indication that the govt was ready to enhance the retirement age of state govt employees from existing 58 years to 60 years of age.
Chairing a meeting with the Employees Joint Consultative Committee (EJCC) Omar Abdullah this afternoon had announced his intention to enhance the retirement age of employees from 58 to 60 years and the upper age limit for youth to obtain government job from 37 to 40 years. He further announced the deadline of one month for finalizing the regularization of adhoc employees whose cases are under process in Finance Department.
"I will strongly advocate the enhancement of age issue in the Cabinet and make sure that it is approved to the best satisfaction of the employees", he said directing Chief Secretary, Mohammad Iqbal Khandey who alongwith Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, B. B. Vyas and Secretary General Administration Department, Mohammad Ashraf Bukhari was flanking him in the meeting he took with leaders of Employees Joint Consultative Committee (EJCC) here, to take action for withdrawing all cases instituted against agitating employees under ESMO. He said he has already given orders for withdrawal of dies-non against agitating employees.
