| Stumped by defeat, NC resorts to vindictive politics | | | Mustansir
Srinagar, June 20: In what could be termed as its strategy in the face if its depleting popularity and inability to fight the opposition politically, the ruling National Conference is blaming opposition People’s Democratic Party for the wrongs committed by the Omar Abdullah regime. If sources in the state administration are to be believed, the ruling NC after facing the humiliating defeat in the Parliamentary elections last month, has started implicating opposition PDP workers and leaders in false cases. It was reliably learnt that after facing the electoral drubbing in the LokSabha elections, ruling NC leaders first approached the leaders of the opposition PDP particularly from the central Kashmir and offered mandate to them besides other attractive "political packages" but could not buy their loyalty. After they failed in their efforts to make them (PDP leaders) to cross the fence, the NC government is targeting them and even implicating them in false cases.
"I wonder after the humiliating defeat, the ruling NC should have done an introspection and in the process should have initiated investigation into the corruption, fraud, embezzlement complaints of its ministers. Instead it has trained guns against opposition leaders and workers as the defeat stares them in face and instead of setting their own house in order, they have started politics of deceit and nastiness" said disenchanted NC leader wishing not to be named. He said that our own leaders who lost the Lok Sabha elections including Dr. Farooq Abdullah have publicly admitted that the miss-governance, corruption and plunder of state exchequer by the NC ministers were responsible for electoral drubbing of that party. "I disapprove this politics of deceit and meanness," the NC leader said. Meanwhile, a senior PDP leader from central Kashmir confirmed to Early Times that soon after the electoral drubbing of the coalition partners, he was approached by many senior NC leaders with interesting offers including mandate and other benefits but he rejected the offer. " I was not the only one whom they (NC) approached, my other party colleagues and friends too were approached to strike bargains with them" the PDP leader said. He said that it was only after the rejection of their offer that they (NC) started a malicious campaign of tarnishing the image of PDP leaders by leveling false, frivolous and baseless allegations against them. This appears to be the standard formulation which the NC Government is following against leaders of the PDP. Meanwhile, sources said a political cell has been operating with state government and certain senior office bearers of the NC -Congress combine. "A naïve NC worker has been subsumed as Advisor to the beleaguered Chief Minister who has no role in running the Ministry but only coordinates efforts to implicate political leaders," sources said. Meanwhile, sources said that opposition PDP has laid its hand on some important and highly confidential records pertaining to the corrupt deeds, misappropriation of public money by the ministers of ruling coalition and also on revenue records which emphatically suggest how NC ministers hold benami, immovable property in the state and outside. |
