| Home Minister asks Omar to identify state land for permanent return of KPs to Valley | | 16,800 kanals of land needed for creation of 3 satellite cities | | Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, June 20: Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh today sought cooperation from Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah to expedite the process of permanent return of Kashmiri Pandits to the Kashmir valley. The matter came up for discussion between the two after Omar called on Union Home Minister. Omar also called upon Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and the issue of return of Kashmiri Pandits to Valley was discussed during this meeting as well. The overall security scenario also came up for discussion besides other matters of administrative importance. Sources told Early Times that Singh asked the Chief Minister to identify more than 16,000 kanals of Government land for the creation of three satellite cities in Central, South and North Kashmir. The land would be used for the creation of the three satellite cities wherein all the facilities would be provided to the members of Pandit community. "It is not easy to create a state out of a state and as such all the stake holders have to be taken into confidence. The Chief Minister of the state is an important player in this regard and he has to be kept in loop by the central Government. Today's meeting was held in the same context," sources said. Sources said that Union Home Minister called Omar to New Delhi and discussed the broader points about the return of Kashmiri Pandits to Kashmir valley. Singh has complete backing of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi in this regard and he has been asked to draw up a plan for the permanent return of Kashmiri Pandits to Valley. "Rajnath Singh asked Omar Abdullah to identity 700 acres (5600 kanals) of land each for the creation of the three satellite cities in the Kashmir valley. Total of 2100 acres (16,800 kanals) of land would be required for the permanent settlement of Kashmiri Pandits in Valley once they return from different parts of country," sources said. An official spokesman said that Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah today morning met Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh at New Delhi and discussed with him various matters relating to the peace and development in the state. "During the meeting matters relating to prevailing security scenario also came up for discussion. The two leaders took stock of the preparedness of the state for the conduct of Amarnath Yatra beginning from June 28. Aspects regarding rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits were also discussed in the meeting and also the steps underway in this regard," said the spokesman. The spokesman said that Omar also called on Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and discussed Jammu and Kashmir affairs with him in detail. He said during the meeting CM apprised PM about the prevailing peace and development scenario in the state. The spokesman said that Omar talked about various development projects under implementation in the state for inclusive and holistic development. He referred to the special focus being laid on the development of power sector and measures initiated to make the state a self-reliant in power generation. "Matters relating to the early completion of centrally sponsored projects and flow of central funds for completion of various ongoing schemes was also discussed in the meeting. Preparedness for the conduct of Amarnath Yatra this year and issues concerning rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits also came up for discussion in the meeting," said the spokesman. It would be in place to mention here that central Government has proposed to take slew of measures for the permanent return of Kashmir Pandits to Valley. These measures were discussed by a high level group appointed by the Central Government with some representatives of Kashmiri Pandits during a meeting here recently. Under the plan three dedicated satellite cities would be developed for the Kashmiri Pandits. One city each would come up in Central, South and North Kashmir respectively. The cities would be high tech and would be laced with all the facilities that are provided to a modern city. Each city would accommodate at least 75,000-1, 00,000 people and in these cities 2 BHK flats would be provided to the families. A medical college each duly recognized by the state Government would be set up in the three satellite cities. Two Regional Engineering Colleges would come up in every satellite city. Under the plan 12 police stations would come up in the three satellite cities so that there is no threat to the lives of Kashmiri Pandits. Four degree colleges each would come up in the three satellite cities. In addition to this nine to 12 schools each would come up in the satellite cities. |
