| Probing 2010 killings now makes no sense | | | Shakeel A Khan SRINAGAR, June 20: The National Conference led Government has made mockery of the things by announcing probe into the 2010 killings. Scores of youth fell to bullets who were protesting against the killing of youth in the Srinagar city. According to people, it makes no sense to order a probe after a gap of four years that too by the same people who were in power that time. The people are of the opinion that the probe ordered by the killers is a cruel joke as according to them all this is being done to derive a political mileage. During an Assembly session in March 2014 it was revealed by the Government that "76 FIRs were registered in different police stations of the Valley regarding the killings of the people which have been investigated and nothing wrong has been found and these matters need not to be investigated". The people argue that the senses of the people in power had fled in 2010, who were so crazy that even the minors got killed at their hands. As per these people the probe ordered by the same people into the 2010 killings is nothing but to rub salt on the wounds. Mohammad Akbar from Srinagar while talking to Early Times said that, "The probe ordered by the Government into its sponsored killings during the 2010 unrest that too after four years, speaks volumes about its frustration. It is nothing but an eye wash aimed at misleading the people,". As per Akbar it is easy to compensate a person in terms of wealth, pain of the wound can be cured but how can the Government cure the pain of separation. According to Akbar, no power on earth can compensate a person who has lost his beloved one. Probes are just political compulsions, according to Akbar. Some parents while talking to Early Times said that, "What packages and the relaxations does the NC led Government has for the persons who got killed or became handicapped forever? How can they pay the parents who had to carry the coffin of their ones on their shoulders?". These parents went on saying that the much talked probe reminds them of the very famous proverb in Urdu 'Nov sov chuvhay khaker Bili haj ko chali gaie' (A cat went on pilgrimage after eating nine hundred rats). |
