| Azad blames media, Lal Singh, Kishtwar violence for stunning defeat | | Thanks those who did not vote for him | | Asif Iqbal Naik KISHTWAR, June 20: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad in an emotional outburst said that Kishtwar was like a cancer that had spread to other parts of the Jammu region and then to other parts of the country thus paving way for the defeat of Congress party. Azad's comments came in the wake of clash between the two groups of the Congress party workers in which the party leaders while blaming each other for poor performance in recently held Lok Sabha election had heated exchanges and even came into fists and blows. While referring to last year August 9 Kishtwar communal violence Azad said that Kishtwar violence acted like a cancer that favored the BJP wave in enter Jammu region where party lost both seats to saffron party. He said that Kishtwar violence also played an important role in BJP's win at Centre. He also blamed the wide media coverage to BJP as other reason for party's poor performance in Lok Sabha election. He said that in all these years he got respect everywhere wherever he visited, except Kishtwar where he always faced humiliation. He said that whenever he visited Kishtwar, he found only handpicked number of workers in the meeting and blamed the party leadership of Kishtwar of failure. " What is Kishtwar--- it is small place--- but when I travel anywhere, people talk about it--- not in good sense and today's action on part of you (Party workers) was self explanatory," said Azad while taking jibe of party workers. He said that instead of fighting in open by leveling allegations and counter allegations, the party leaders should have raised these issues with him during a closed door meeting. Without naming former MP Lal Singh; Azad said that in Kathua, senior party leaders also campaigned against him and added that he was lucky to lose the election. "I thank all those who voted for me and doubly thank those who voted against me-had won the election, I would have been an MP sitting in isolation--- today I am lucky that I was chosen as Leader of Opposition that gives me a protocol equivalent to PM," said Azad. |
