| Programme on Energy, Environment, Natural Hazards begins at Ladakh | | | Early Times Report Ladakh, June 20: The School Education Programme on Energy, Environment and Natural Hazards being organized by the Institute of Energy Research and Training (IERT), University of Jammu and Geological Society of London inaugurated today by Dr. Kuldip Thusu, Director Universal Biopharma Inc., California. This programme is a part of the International Conference on "Sustainable Resource Development in the Himalaya" to be inaugurated by Governor of the J&K State NN Vohra on 24th June at the Grand Dragon Hotel, Leh. Professor GM Bhat, Director IERT and Rector, Bhadarwah Campus, Jammu University welcomed the experts from overseas including Dr. Jonathan Craig, UK, Dr. Paul Denton, British Geological Survey, Joel Gill (GfGD) &, Rosalie from IRDR, UCL, UK and Dr. Kajori, Neonatologist from California and highlighted the salient features of the students programme. Principal of the School, Fr. Senoj Thomas presented a vote of Thanks. Thematic lectures were delivered by Jonathan Craig on energy and environment, by Professor G. M. Bhat on climate change and Himalayan glaciers as sustainable resource. The students were also given exercises to probe their ability to deal with the burning environment issues and sustainability conducted by Waquar Ahmed, Sundeep Pandita, Neha, Shiv Jyoti and Shveta. In addition they were made to lay hands on rocks, minerals and fossils identification and their utility. Dr. Bindra Thusu presented the Himalayan tectonic model prepared by the IERT team, Jammu University to the Principal of the School which was on display and teaching during the day long students activities. |
