Ration scam: Police seizes 165 bags of FCI ration, two held

Kishtwar, July 3:: Continuing its drive against the black-marketing of the ration meant for the CA&PD supply, Kishtwar Police foiled a bid of smuggling ration with the seizure of huge haul of Food Corporation of India (FCI) from Kuriya locality of Kishtwar District besides arrest of the truck driver and a dealer for illegal sale of the government ration.
The accused have been identified namely as Ifroz Ahmed (driver) and Mohammad Shafi of Kuriya village a trader who was purchasing the ration items.
Police sources said, " Acting on a tip off today police seized 165 bags of rice weighing 50 Kg each from Kuriya area of Kishtwar District which were ferried for the black marketing in open market.
As per the details available with "Early Times", a police team led by in charge police post Kuleed Sub Inspector Madan Lal under the supervision of DySP HQ Kishtwar Nazir Ahmed Ganie laid a specila naka after receiving specific information about illegal sale of government ration to be transported to Dachhan area of Kishtwar from Kishtwar store of Food Corporation of India (FCI).
Police said, "The police team followed the truck (JK02G-3755) soon after it was diverted from its due route and intercepted it at Kuriya village and apprehended the truck driver while handing over the ration to a local CA&PD dealer namely as Mohammad Shafi of Kuriya village."
"Their movement on seeing police team made suspicious and it was after the scrutiny of relevant documents, police found that the challan of the said vehicle was meant for Dachhan while the Kuriya area of the District did not fall enroute to Dachhan indicating mal practice and illegal nexus, police sources said.
They added that acting swiftly Police seized the government ration and a team headed by DySP (HQ) Nazir Ahmed Ganie and SHO police Station Kishtwar conducted raid at FCI store located at Kuleed Kishtwar and scrutinized the documents and verify the other documents. "The raid was on when last report came in. Police also summoned FCI in charge and other employees for questioning, police sources said adding, "SP Kishtwar Sanjay Kotwal is personally monitoring the investigations in this the case".
It is pertinent to mention that people of Kishtwar have been regularly complaining about non availability of Ration in government deports from time and again, however the senior officials at the helm of affairs remained unmoved reasons better known to them while this approach from higher officials has encouraged the black marketing of the government ration.
