| Holy town Katra turns fortress ahead of Prime Minister Modi's visit | | 5 SPs, 20 DySPs, 2 additional battalions besides Paramilitary forces part of security blanket | | K Koushal JAMMU, July 3: Keeping in view the threat perception from Al-Qaida, the security arrangements have been completed and holy town of Katra has turned into a fortress ahead of scheduled day long visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi tomorrow, during which he will be inaugurating Katra Train service, a hydroelectric power project in Uri and shall be chairing a security review meeting in Srinagar. Giving information DIG Udhampur-Reasi range, Gareeb Dass said that all due security arrangements meant for VVIPs visit have been made in holy town Katra with special deployment of 5 SPs, 20 DySPs and additional two battalions of security forces as a fool proof security arrangements. "Troops from Paramilitary forces including Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Force, Border Security Force (BSF) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have been deployed in the security blanket, he added. DIG Udhampur-Reasi further said that the security forces have sealed the venue Katra Railway Station and its adjoining areas with the active collaboration of Special Protection Group (SPG) commandos who landed here on Yesterday evening. Meanwhile, sources from Katra said that a team of around 80-member SPG team has taken the charge of security around the venue Katra. They said that the SPG team also conducted survey of the locations where the Prime Minister has to visit besides taking over the Katra Railway Station and the three helipads especially constructed in the view of PM's arrival. "Apart from taking charge of helipads and Railway Station Katra, the SPG team also took over the charge of security of 1200 metre road stretch between the Katra Railway station while police and paramilitary troopers, who are deployed to cover 15 kilometer radius of the sanitised area, have intensified random checking in the holy town,'' sources added. Giving details sources said that about 26 companies jointly from different security agencies have been deployed in the town of Katra- the base camp of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Cave Shrine situated in Trikuta Hills. "Meantime, the Indian Air Force (IAF) choppers also made a trial flight this morning from technical airport at Northern Command Udhampur at around 11:00 am and also made surveillance flight over Katra town," they added. Sources said that Union Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda and MoS with PMO Jitendra Singh will also be accompanying PM during his visit. Meanwhile, a senior police officer giving information said that the programme of PM's visit has been finalized following the assurances by the DGP Jammu and Kashmir K Rajendera who visited Delhi two days ago. He further said that Madhopur police too have also extended their cooperation in this regard. Earlier, to review the security for the PM a high level meeting was also organized at Railway station Katra on Saturday, in which IGP Jammu Rajesh Kumar, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Shantmanu, DIG Udhampur, Reasi range Gareeb Dass besides other railways top officials took participation. Further, major security arrangements are being made for the visit in Srinagar also, sources said, adding that at the Unified Headquarters meet to be held at the 15 Army (Chinar) Corps headquarters at Srinagar's Badami Bagh Cantonment, PM will be briefed on the security situation along the borders with Pakistan and China and in the hinterland by senior Army officers, including Northern Army Command Chief, Lt Gen. DS Hooda. |
