| Return formula with Omar's 'modifications' creates furore among KPs, Amid confusing signals, community raises concerns over security | | One eve of Modi visit | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 4 : Propping up with the alluring expressions like "dignity, security ..., assured livlihood, even as Narendra Modi government has flagged the return of Kashmiri pandits to the Valley, the formula entwined with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's own 'modifications' has created furore among the community ahead of PM's visit tomorrow. Yearning to go back to motherland, the move is facing hiccups with majority of the KPs showing reluctance on some rationale and reasonable grounds. On the eve of Modi's visit tomorrow, a loud call has emerged from different places asking Prime Minister to address their concerns prior to implementing the formula.Common voices from the community have also dismissed outrightly the welcome nod by some organisations and leaders and asked them to take a lead first in such 'experimental' gestures , which if tested in positive direction would be followed by the masses having apprehensions. As the Prime Minister Narender Modi arrives in state tomorrow on his maiden visit, Kashmiri Pandits have sought to dispel what is being attempted to portray as a historic peaceful move in terms of rehabilitation of KPs back in their ancestral place. " Let's be honest..... there will no such thing as a peaceful settlement on this issue. Those formulating the blueprint as also the ones who are excited about it have to understand the deep nuances of security concerns which are valid as on date..." said Amit Raina, a youth living in Janipur area. I donot understand how they will address the dimension of security when militants are still roaming freely everywhere.....Are you going to arm them and allow them to shoot to kill, if they see anyone even vaguely looking like a militant ??.... how the government is really going to guarantee the lives of people in isolated clusters. The reality is the government and police can't guarantee this for people living in a safe and secured places in main towns....", he asked. Most of the families are reluctant to return formula over the security issue questioning the response of Kashmiri Militant groups fighting in the valley. While there is a general query as to how the government would guarantee security of families, may are questioning sagacity of the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in giving nod to this formula at present."The question is do Omar Abdullah's political compulsions allow him to accept such return fullheartedly....? Will there be a rise in militancy now supported by the elements with in the Government to discourage such plans.....? How to ascertain the political forces in valley accept it....? Or this Government is using this issue as a hedge to force a solution that our Government has shied away from pursuing......?", said Autar Krsihan Chatta, while showing unwillingness to the return formula mooted by Modi government and endorsed by Omar government in state. Not impressed by the financial package entwined with the return move, most of the elderly as well as youngsters are unanimous in saying that money is Ok but it is usable only after one gets to live life without any fear or constant scare of threat to life. Moreover, ones dignity, honour and protection of women is supreme to any and every offer, the condition which propelled the Community to leave their homes 25 years back. This is the rationale behind their contention."No Pandit will ever feel safe in the Kashmir valley unless those who killed them, raped them, maimed them, and burnt their homes are made to face court of law. What happened in 1990 was a crime against humanity. Those who perpetrated the violence are roaming free on the roads of Kashmir..... No one has been punished, no convictions have been made, no cases have ever been registered or pursued against the murderers....", said Uma Tickoo, a housewife living with her family in Purkhoo. Justice must be brought against those who were actively involved in killings. No Hindu will feel safe in his own home while Yasin Malik and murderers like him roam freely, she said with anger sounding expressions. |
