| Kashmir clergy opposes separate home land for pandits | | Grand Mufti threatens agitation | | Javaid Naikoo
Srinagar, July 3 : The grand Mufti of Kashmir, Mufti Bashir-ud-Din has threatened agitation to oppose a separate home land for migrant pundits. An amalgam of Muslim religious organis-ations working under Majlis-e-Itihad-e-Milat today while welcoming the return of migrant Kashmiri pandits to Kashmir refused to support the call of separate homeland for Pandits and termed it a conspiracy. In a press conference organized here prominent religious organizations of Kashmir said that Kashmiri Pandits who migrated from the Kashmir during early and late 90's are part of kashmiri society and have an equal right to live here and return to Kashmir but demanding separate homeland is not acceptable to the people of Kashmir and cautioned the Centre government against any such move to create separate settlements for the migrant community as proposed already. "Kashmiri people which include Kashmiri pandits as well have some serious apprehensions about the concept of separate homeland for panidts as has been proposed so we need to be careful and oppose any such move of the government," said the Mufti. He said that that 'no doubt pandits are an important part of the Kashmiri society like any other Kashmiri and were pressurised to leave Kashmir in 1990 under a conspiracy which was hatched somewhere else have every right to settle at their ancestral places along with their Muslim brothers. Pertinently Grand Mufti,Mufti Bashir-ud-din who is also the President of Majlis-e-Itihad-e-Milat which include some prominent socio-political and religious organisations of Kashmir like Jamat-e-Islami, Jamiat-e-Ahli Hadees and Anjuman-e-Shari Shian, Islamic Study Circle, Dawat-ul-Haq and Nadwat-ul-Ulma. said that any plan by the Central government to create separate settlements in Kashmir for the migrant pandit community would have dangerous consequences incase government did not ponder over the issue right now. While talking to media persons Grand Mufti threatened agitation and termed the plans of Delhi to rehabilitate the migrant Kashmiri pandits merely a political conspiracy. Pertinently as per reports central government has a proposal for return of migrant Kashmiri pandits to the Kashmir and have also directed state government to earmark separate land for them. |
