Bivek Mathur JAMMU, July 3: In a bid to retain them within the city limits, four science lecturers are managing their stay of more than one year in Government Degree College (GDC) Paloura despite the fact that there is no infrastructure, availability of science stream. Now question arises-Who is managing this overstay? Sources told Early Times that there is no infrastructure in GDC Paloura for the subjects falling under science stream including Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology, but four of the influential lecturers who had managed to escape the transfer orders from city colleges to peripherals getting their orders modified in favour of this college about one year back are staying here in Jammu against the norms. Among the four lecturers are a physics lecturer, Prof Karan Singh, Chemistry lecturer, Prof Mukhtyar Singh Saini, Botany lecturer, Prof Veena Sumbria and a Zoology lecturer Prof Shaista Ajaz. Whenever, any attempt has been made to contact higher ups about the unwanted stay of these lecturers, the only reply from their end is-Science Stream is being introduced in the college shortly but the important question to be answered is-What these lecturers are doing sans science stream in the college?. On the one hand, there is unaccounted stay of these lecturers in the college whereas on the other, there is acute shortage of staff in the college. Principal, Prof. Savitri Sharma admitted that the one post each of Junior Assistant, Accountant, Sweeper, Lib bearer in the Non-Teaching category are lying vacant since the establishment of the college. Minister for Higher Education, Mohd Akbar Lone himself is not aware of the prevailing lawlessness in the college for the last over one year as when he was contacted by this reporter, he denied of having knowledge of such overstay of lecturers in the college. |
