| Vested interests blocking Hindu Shrines, Religious Places Bill 2009: Dharmarth Trust | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 3: J&K Dharmarth Trust today alleged that vested interests among the Kashmiri Pandit Community are blocking Hindu Shrines and Religious places Bill 2009. According to press release, Engineer Shashi Khajuria, Secretary J&K Dharmarth Trust said that Vested interests among the Kashmiri Pandit community were blocking the Bill. "They are lobbying for unjustified inclusion of 50 odd temples and religious places run by legally constituted religious institutions with a sole purpose to usurp properties and assets attached to these Shrines in connivance with local land mafia and rogue elements in the society", he said, adding that it was unjustified demand has created a divide that was reflected both during the deliberations of the Select Committee as also during the discussion in Legislative Assembly on 06 March 2014. Khajuria further said that reviving 500 odd ruined temples and restoring their glory requires tremendous human, financial and political capacity. "Unfortunately the Battered Kashmiri Pandit community can not muster the required capacity without the help of the entire society, state and central Governments. Demand for inclusion of 50 odd temples is only an excuse to delay and defer the passage of the Bill", he said and added "We are of the considered opinion that a Bill that divides Hindus and creates a divide between people of Jammu and Kashmir and does not help in any way the purpose for which it was created i.e. restoring the dignity of Hindu religion by revival of its places of worship should be withdrawn." If at all, the Bill has to be passed due to some unknown political compulsion; the 50 religious places managed by Hindu religious institutions referred above should not be brought under the purview of the Bill. |
