| DB asks doctors to furnish property details | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, July 3 : A Division bench of the J&K High Court on Thursday asked all doctors to furnish details of their movable and immovable assets even as it directed blacklisting pharmaceutical companies giving gifts and freebies to the doctors in the state. Disposing of a Public Interest Litigating alleging that various doctors have been receiving gifts in cash and kind, a division bench of Chief Justice M M Kumar and Justice Hasnain Massodi passed the directions after perusal of a status report by Health and Medical Education Department. In the report, it has been submitted that a charge sheet has been filed against five doctors namely Dr Firdous Ahmad Vaid, Dr Fayaz Ahmad Peerzada, Dr Abdul Ahad Wani, Dr Wani Abdul Majeed, and Dr Javed Ahmad Zargar charge sheets have been issued along articles of charges."The chargesheet issued against the main five doctors should be taken to its logical end and be concluded expeditiously within a period of six months maximum," the court said. In other direction, the court said that all the charged doctors and others may be asked to furnish the details of their assets including movable and immovable assets, so that it may be ascertained at appropriate time, if their assets exceed their known sources of income."The respondents shall constitute a task force for surprise checks and to find out if any other doctor has been indulging in similar types of activities along with the companies/labs offering such kickbacks, and if anyone pharmaceutical or labs is found to be indulging in such activities, then appropriate cases may be registered besides blacklisting such companies banning the public dealings with them," the court said, directions government to file a status report before Registrar Judicial within two months. The PIL filed by three persons from Srinagar through advocate Qazi Ayaz had demanded action against doctors who are involved in the commission and omission of offenses involving receiving of kickbacks and freebies to prescribe the medicine. The petitioners had also demanded ascertaining assets of such doctors and cancellation of their licenses. |
