| PDP suspends one aspirant, issues notice to another | | | Bashir Assad
Srinagar, Aug 2: The principal opposition Peoples Democratic Party Saturday suspended the membership of a senior leader in summer capital Srinagar over anti-party activities and issued show cause notice to another leader. Sources said that Abdul Rouf Bhat, a former militant commander had joined the PDP in 2011 and was latter elevated as vice president district committee Srinagar in 2012. However, Bhat was a contender for the party ticket from Amirakadal constituency currently represented by NC in the state legislature. PDP, however, announced the candidature of senior leader, Sayed Altaf Bukhari that annoyed the former militant who started anti-party activities in the area. A spokesman of the party said that Abdul Rouf Bhat who was the vice president district committee Srinagar has been suspended from basic membership of the party for his anti party activities. The decision to suspend Bhat was taken by Abdul Rehman Veeri, the chairman of disciplinary committee. Meanwhile the party also issued a show cause notice to Fazal Mehmood Baig, brother of former deputy chief minister and MP, Muzaffer Hussain Baigh who has decided to contest as independent from Sangrama constituency in protest against the party decision about repeating the sitting MLA, Sayed Basharat Bukhari from the constituency. Pertinently, Fazal had issued a release to the press few days ago about his decision to contest against the party nominee from Sangrama. Fazal had alleged that the party leaders and workers were not taken on board before distributing the party tickets for the upcoming assembly elections. The spokesman said that Fazal was asked to clear his position within seven days as he has gone against the party decision to contest as an independent candidate against the party's nominated candidate from Sangrama. The dissent within the party that won all the three Lok Sabha seats recently has been growing since it announced the list of candidates for the upcoming state elections. Party workers and leaders have protested against the party's mandate to candidates at least on two occasions outside the residence of patron Mufti Mohammad Syed. Meanwhile a close aid of PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayed told Early Times on conditions of not to be named that it was a conscious decision of the party to repeat the sitting MLAs and changing the mandate was out of question. |
