Jammu, Aug 2: To observe the breastfeeding week from 1-7 August 2014, Health Education Bureau, Directorate of Health Services Jammu organized an exhibition in the OPD complex of government Hospital Sarwal. According to press release, Dr. Baljeet Pathania, Director Health Services Jammu inaugurated the exhibition. Dr. Gurjeet Singh, Deputy Director (Head Quarter), Dr. VP Sharma, Dy. Director Schemes, Dr. Arvind Raina, Assistant Director Schemes, Dr. Preetam Katoch, Asstt. Director Health Education Bureau, Dr. Robinder Khajuria, Chief Medical Officer Jammu, Dr. A.D.S. Manhas, Medical Superintendent, Govt. Hospital Sarwal were among the other senior officers of the Health Services Jammu present on the occasion. The exhibition depicts the theme of the World Breastfeeding Week 2014, "Breastfeeding a winning goal for life", benefits of breastfeeding for child as well as for mother. Nidhi Gandotra, I/C Audio Visual Officer, Health Education Bureau detailed the participants and the general public about the importance of breastfeeding for the baby and for the mother. She emphasized the need to start breastfeeding immediately after birth, to provide exclusive breastfeeding to the baby for first six months and to continue breastfeeding for two years. This will help the baby to stay healthy throughout his/ her life. Pamphlets on the importance of breastfeeding were distributed among the staff and the general public for mass awareness. Dr. Baljeet Pathania, visited the gyne ward of the hospital and imparted health education to the mother of new born to give exclusive breastfeeding to the baby for the first six months. |
