Congress starts targeting BJP for electoral gains in Jammu region

Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 3 : Leaders of the state unit of the Congress have decided to target PDP,the BJP and Panthers party with the basic aim of preventing them from harming the electoral prospects of the Congress during the ensuing Assembly poll.
Party source said that after narrowing down the wedge between the dissidents and the loyalists in the state unit of the Congress both Ghulam Nabi Azad and Saifudin Soz have been given free hand by the party high command to build an atmosphere against BJP .
Reports said that Congress leaders' criticism of PDP was simply to maintain a balance of their criticism of BJP.It is so because the Congress does not want to shut the doors for a post-poll alliance with the PDP.Hence both Soz and Azad have plans of being careful in the use of words while criticisng PDP.
But as far as BJP is concerned, Congress leaders, especially Soz and Azad, have decided to launch a full scale campign against the Sangh Parivar because the Congress leaders believe that it is only the BJP that can pose serious problem for the Congress candidates in Jammu region.
These leaders also believe that Panthers Party too can harm the Congress candidates in about a dozen constituencies in Jammu region. Hence Azad has blamed BJP and Panthers party for creating conditions similar to those witnessed during 2007-2008 row over diversion of land to Amarnath Shrine Board.
Azad said that the row over the issue of land transfer had triggered communal and regional divide in the state and the Congress would prevent the BJP from repeating the events of 2008 on Kousar Nag issue. Senior Congress functionaries believe that after Azad and Soz were motivated by the party high command to shake hands, the poll prospects for the party in Jammu and Kashmir have brightened. The only hurdle for them on the way of emerging as the largest single party is BJP that has a strong base in the Jammu region.
