Jammu, Aug 3: Under sharp censure for poor implementation of centrally sponsored schemes in the state, Omar Abdullah Government in yet another embarrassment for itself has been ranked poor under the National Programme for Control of Blindness (NPCB) whereas the Western state of Gujarat and Southern State of Andhra Pradesh with neighbouring Punjab and Himachal Pradesh have been listed among the good performers.
As per figures available with Early Times in the year 2013-14, Jammu and Kashmir state was given a target figure to operate 82331 patients of Cataract disease but unfortunately it got success in operating only 16347 patients. For providing free spectacles to the school children the target before the state was 7000 but it achieved the last figure of 5414.
In a matter of shame for the Jammu and Kashmir government under the Coalition government of National Conference and Congress it failed to collect any donated eye in the year 2013-14 whereas in case of other eye diseases the set target was 500 but again it achieved a figure of zero.
The figures in case of Gujarat for the same year are far better than the Jammu and Kashmir state. In case of performing cataract operation, the set target before the Gujarat government was 399632 but the achieved figures are 780132 which is 380500 more than the fixed target.
In case of providing free spectacles to school children, the set target was 1,50,000 but it got success in providing the same to 1,52,082 school going children which is again 2082 figure more than the expected.
As far as collection of donated eye figures are concerned, against the set target of 4,000 eyes it made it possible to collect 9,291 donated eyes whereas in case of curing other eye diseases, against the set target of 2,850 it got success in curing 75855 patients which is 73005 patients more than the expected.
Figures in case of Punjab are again much better than Jammu and Kashmir state as in case of operating Cataract patients is concerned, the set target was 183948 but the achieved figures are 202569. As far as providing free spectacles to the school going children is concerned, the target was 7500 whereas the achievement is 19536. For curing other eye diseases Punjab government was not given any target but it made it possible to cure 8120 patients. Similar are the figures in case of Himachal Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.
