Early Times Report

Srinagar, Aug 8 : As the Services Selection Recruitment Board (SSRB) has earned a revenue to the tune of around seven crores during last three years, the Board is yet to reimburse the payments to the staff it had hired for conducting these examination especially the written tests which were conducted at various centers across the state early last year. The official documents show that invigilators and supervisors have already been paid.
As per the information available with Early Times, the SSRB on account of sale of forms and fees paid by the Government job aspirants earned a revenue of Rs. 4.68 crores in 2011alone ; From 2012 to 2014 (upto June) more than Rs. 2 crore & 15 lakh was earned by the board but in-spite of having such a huge income the board has failed to reimburse fees to the staff hired during conducting of written exams . The Government staff especially hired from school education department during conducting of the written test for teachers in Srinagar and other districts of Kashmir haven't been paid till date while as the amount according to SSRB authorities was transferred into the official accounts of respective Deputy Commissioners.
" We were asked to conduct the written examinations for general line teachers in Srinagar in 2013 . When we entered the exam center there was no arrangement for refreshments and we arranged the same ourselves , it was conveyed to us that money will be reimbursed to us by the concerned Deputy Commissioner , now it is more than a year since the said exam was conducted by us and we are yet to be paid for the same" said a Farooq Ahmad (name changed) working as lecturer in school education department who was supervising the exam in one of the centers in Srinagar city.
The official documents from SSRB say that an amount of Rs 26,80,250 has been reimbursed to the invigilators , supervisors etc by the Board during the conduct of written test and viva -voce from 2011 to 2014 , but the Government school lecturers and teachers who were hired to conduct written test say that they haven't been paid even a single penny.
The supervisors and invigilators also allege that fees which is being paid by the SSRB is too less and from 2006 till date not a single rupee has been increased by the Government . " "We are being paid mere Rs 100 for one day to conduct the exams for SSRB , and these rates have been fixed in 2006 and till date there has been no increase in these rates . The irony is that authorities have not even paid this small amount to we people and the matter needs to be probed" said Shaista Akhtar (name changed) a Government school teacher who worked as invigilator while conducting the written test for teachers on behalf of SSRB in 2013
According to the official documents available with this newspaper an amount of Rs 12 lakhs has been shown spent on providing refreshments to the supervisory and invigilatory staff by SSRB from the last two years but on ground this amount hasn't been spend as the staff hired by SSRB managed all the refreshments of their own.
