Srinagar, Aug 8 : Army on Friday evening killed three militants in an encounter in the Tangdhar Sector in North Kashmir. An Army spokesperson said that the bodies of slain militants along with their weapons have been recovered from the site of encounter.
"Three militants were killed in an encounter along Line of Control (LoC) in Tanghdar sector of north Kashmir's Kupwor district on Friday" the spokesperson said.
He said that army's 3/1 GR, 5/5 GR and 20 RR launched a massive hunt to combat with the suspected militants who had reportedly infiltrated in this side near Gagadori in the sector last week.
"The group of 6-7 militants reportedly managed to sneak into this side on July 31 last month and they were hiding in the area since then", he said.
On August 6 when the army's 3/1 GR cordoned off the whole Gaga dori area near Eagle Post following the suspicious movement, the militant group hiding in the area opened heavy fire with sophisticated weapons killing one of the trooper Naik Damoder Thapa.
Following the killing of army trooper, army's 3/1 GR along with extra contingent of forces including 5/5 GR and 20 RR launched a hunt to track down the militant group, sources said. "Early today morning as the joint team was conducting searches in the upper belt of Gagdori forest close to the Line of Control, the intruders opened heavy fire upon the forces ensuing a fierce gunbattle that lasted for more than three hours", the spokesperson said.
During the exchange of gunfire, three militants have been killed, he said, that the bodies were recovered in the afternoon but their identity is yet to be ascertained. "The operation in the area is still in progress as there were intelligence reports of about 6-7 militants intruded in the area", he said.
