| PHE employees hit streets against abusive Minister | | ‘Under pressure, Govt rejects Lankar’s Resignation’ | | Javaid Naikoo Srinagar, Aug 8: Irate over alleged misbehaviour of National Conference Minister with Chief Engineer Public Health Engineering, (PHE) employees of PHE shunned work today, Government while bowing under pressure rejected the resignation of the Chief Engineer. A day after Chief Engineer Public Health engineering (PHE), Muzaffar Ahmad Lanker, resigned from his post after he was allegedly abused by senior NC Minister Choudhary Ramzan, J&K Government today while rejecting his resignation asked him to join office once again. “I am directed to refer resignation letter no. PHE/PS/13492-97, dated 07-08-2014 which has been examined at this end and that it has not been accepted,” reads a letter addressed to M.A Lanker by Under Secretary, J&K Government, PHE/IF&C. “Therefore you are advised to continue to work as Chief Engineer, PHE department, Kashmir,” reads the letter pertinently on Thursday Muzaffar Ahmad Lankar, chief engineer of PHE department Kashmir submitted his resignation after he alleged that Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department (CAPD) Minister Chowdhary Mohammad Ramzan misbehaved with him in a meeting in a full gathering of officials of the said department. As PHE employees protested against the misbehaviour of the said Minister with Chief Engineer, employees body namely joint action committee (JAC) of the state also while supporting the strike call demanded that Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah must immediately act against his Minister for the highhandedness with a public servant of the society. PHE employees as a mark of protest gathered at the office complex today and shouted slogans against Chowdhary Ramzan and state Government for maintaining silence on the issue. Talking to media persons Sajjad Ahmad Parray chairman of Public Health Department (PHE) joint employees coordination committee said that the employees will hold a meeting this evening to decide future course of action and added that if the Minister does not apologize an Government doesn't take any action against Chowdhary Ramzan till today evening, they will announce details of further protests. “All the offices of the department are closed throughout the Valley today in protest against the Minister's misbehaviour with Chief Engineer," Parray said PHE employees who raised a tent in the lawns of PHE head office in Srinagar were raising slogans like ‘we want justice, Lanker sahab aagay bado -hum tumharay saath hai, etc, and demanded that the said Minister should apologise otherwise they have no option but to go for a formal protest from Saturday on wards. Pertinently minutes after this incident on Thursday, Chowdhary Ramzan told media persons that ‘he had not misbehaved with the chief engineer and added that he only wanted to know the fate of a drinking water supply scheme in his north Kashmir Handwara constituency for which he had allotted Rs. 9 crore already.’ Meanwhile People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief spokesman and legislator Naeem Akhtar while quoting the incident as a reflection of the Minister's poor behaviour with Public servants like PHE Chief Engineer in its recent case said that ‘This is the way of this Government and Ministers, especially after recent poll rout. He said that it is a kind of Change in Behaviour of NC Minister’s after rout to NC in recently held Parliamentary elections in which NC was defeated badly across the state. |
