| Workers pressurizing Cong leadership to withdraw support from Govt | | | ET Report JAMMU, Aug 8: After party leadership has announced to contest coming Assembly elections on its own, Congress leaders in State are exerting pressure on the high command to severe ties with National Conference at this juncture and withdraw support of the present Government headed by Omar Abdullah. There a feeling among Congress leaders that there is no reason to continue in the Government when party has already decided to contest elections alone. Credible sources in the Congress said that majority of the party leaders were mounting pressure on the state president of Congress Saif-ud-Din Soz to take a decision on continuation of alliance with NC. Party leaders believed that there was strong resentment among common people against NC so sharing power with NC in the present system would be proved disastrous for the party in the ensuing Assembly polls. Credible sources said that a meeting of Congress workers was held at Srinagar a couple of days back in which majority of the workers cautioned the high command against continuation in the power. During the meeting party workers convened their feelings to the Pradesh Congress Committee chief Soz not to waste time. They said that it was all due to the support of Congress that NC Ministers and leaders have been indulged into looting state exchequer. They said NC leaders and Ministers were concentrating only in their own constituencies but ignoring areas dominated by Congress leaders. Congress workers said that except some Ministers all the Congress workers are against continuation in the Government. They cautioned the high command against ignoring wishes and aspirations of the workers to protect personal interests of party Ministers. They said that Congress Ministers were opposing withdraw of support only because they were indulged into corrupt practices but they have no concern for the party. Credible sources said that party leadership has assured the workers that decision to continuation in the alliance would be taken within a couple of weeks. |
