| Udaan takes 80 candidates for a ride | | | Muhammad Mukaram
SRINAGAR, Aug 7: Special industry initiative scheme named "Udaan" launched with an aim to improve and increase the employability for the educated youth of state by providing training has proven to be a big mess with the candidates being taken for a ride. The job aspirants allege that they were cheated from the beginning on the name of training, skill development and employment. At least 80 candidates from the state were selected for training-cum-placement under Udaan scheme this year in association with RBL Bank (The Ratnakar Bank Limited) and Basix Academy of Building Lifelong Employability (B-Able) NGO but none of them have been placed so far. This group of candidates after completing their six month training in Mumbai are feeling dejected now. "We were taken for a ride. We completed six months training in RBL bank Mumbai and we were promised to be placed but till now we didn't receive any offer letter. NSDC, State government, RBL and B-Able NGO is playing with our careers," said the group of candidates. Notably, some of the leading companies joined hands with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) to implement the Union Home Ministry-sponsored scheme, "Udaan", only a few have either given jobs after training while others are left in lurch. The students allege that their precious time was wasted by these concerned agencies. They said that NSDC team assured them that they will be placed in Mumbai within three days after completion of training period but till now nothing has been done. "Though one month has passed but we didn't receive any communication from the concerned authorities," they said. It is worth to mention that out of 80 candidates only 42 joined the training in Mumbai. Out of them seven left the training mid-way. But out of 35 candidates who completed the training only six have received the offer letters. "They promised us that we will be given over Rs 3 lakh per annum package after completion of training keeping in view the expenses of Mumbai city. But now some candidates who received letters are being forced to work on Rs 1.8 lakh package that is sheer discrimination." Most of the candidates are MBA's, M Phil and post graduates with 2 to 3 years of experience. For them the pay packet is sheer injustice and it is difficult for them to survive at Mumbai. "After completion of the training we had a meeting with Project Director, Udaan Jahangir Hashmi, NSDC Udaan Co-ordinator Bint Abbas and Vagish Sharma, they assured us a package of around 3 lakhs per annum," the candidates said. |
