DD transmitters in Rajouri, Noushehra may finally see light of day
Modi Govt realizes need to thwart Pak propaganda war
8/9/2014 12:18:17 AM
Rajouri, Aug 8 : Government of India (GoI) is going to strengthen the coverage of Doordarshan in J&K especially in the border areas to counter the anti-India propaganda of Pakistan. Prasar Bharti under its 11th plan has approved schemes to strengthen its network and is going to establish five high power transmitters near line of Control (LoC) out of which 2 will be installed at Rajouri. Pertinent to mention that when the militancy was in its peak in border districts of Rajouri and Poonch a Programme Generating Facility Center (PGFC) of Parsar Bharti (Doordarshan) was constructed in the year 2002 at Rajouri to counter the Pakistani false propaganda. But unfortunately despite lapse of more than 12 years the PGFC is still waiting for its inauguration despite the fact that it was equipped with very sensitive and high quality instruments /machinery and was constructed at the cost of more than Rs 80 crores. Parsar Bharti is running two transmitters of varying powers one each at Nowshera (Rajouri) and Dhargloon (Poonch) but these transmitters have failed to achieve its goals. Many inhabitants of border belts in both the districts who can't afford Direct To Home (DTH) facilities are still prefer to watch Pakistan television network as the Doordarshan transmitters failed to provide the signals along entire border belt. Shabir Mujahid, Director Doordarshan, Jammu did his best to make functional the Rajouri Programme Generating Facility Center (PGFC) but non-cooperation of higher authorities at Mandi house In New Delhi , including providing staff and required funds, has dashed his dreams. But Mujahid and his officers did't loose heart and at present under some arrangements he has been sending a team of technicians, cameraman and engineers--for 2-3 days only in a month- headed by Dr Sohan Koul ,programme director to record about 50 programmes on various issues in Pahari and Gojri languages involving locals. Programmes recorded at this PGFC are being telecast on Doordarshan at Jammu and more than 80 percent population from Rajouri and Poonch districts can't watch these programmes in the absence of DD towers/signals. Now the BJP government has taken up the matter of countering the anti-India propaganda by Pakistan television (PTV) and I&B minister has assured the Upper House of Parliament that these projects will be completed within next two years. It has send a ray of hope among the people of border belts and in the depth areas. The time will tell that Parkash Javadekar will succeed in his mission or not. PGFC at Rajouri waiting for its official inauguration and hoped that present I&B Minister will get an opportunity to inaugurate it after 14 years of its establishment.
