| Health authorities crack whip on illegal nursing homes, diagnostic labs | | | | RAJOURI, Aug 8: District Health authorities have identified about 33 Nursing Homes, diagnostic laboratories, X-ray establishments etc at Sunderbani, Rajouri and Nowshera which are being operated without any proper permissions from the concerned authorities. These units were operating illegally under the nose of district Health Authorities who woke up after the fake reports of clinical tests by one of these diagnostic laboratories confirming a serious ailment to a youth from Thanamandi recently.The youth was rushed to GMC, Jammu and the results of the tests from a Jammu based reputed Lab declare the youth fit who had minor fever. The results of Rajouri based laboratory disturbed the family mentally as well as physically and advocate Ehsan Mirza brother of the youth lodged an FIR against the owners of the Lab and also approached the Chief Medical Officer for immediate action against the diagnostic Laboratory.During investigation, CMO found that the employees at the Lab were not trained in the profession and directed the police to take action against the owners and employees.Immediately after the incident Health Authorities swung into action and during investigation found 33 such units operating without licenses issued by J&K Nursing Homes and Clinical Establishments Act 1963. On August 7, Dr Rajiv Sharma, CMO Rajouri vide his office letter No CMO/NHCE/R/2014-15/3631-3634 informed the District Magistrate that he has directed Dr Chaman Bhasin, District Health Officer to seal these establishments with the help of concerned Block Medical Officers (BMOs) in the presence of concerned 1st class magistrates (Tehsildars) and police officers.District Magistrate on Thursday directed the tehsildars to accompany the Health Team in sealing these illegal units and today two such units (diagnostic labs) were sealed at Rajouri. Abdul Qayoom Khan, Tehsildar said that out of 19 identified illegal units operating in Rajouri city and after the leakage of information most of these either shifted to unidentified locations.He added that the drive against such illegal units will continue and during surprise checking these units will be sealed at their make shift locations. According to list prepared by the Health authorities 6 such illegal units have been identified in Sunderbani block while 8 are located in Nowshera block and action will also be taken against these units within next few days. "No such illegal unit will be allowed to operate in future at these locations as all the concerned BMOs have been issued necessary directions," said CMO. |
