Jammu, Aug 8: The absence of ramps in the building of Chest Disease and Tuberculosis Hospital (CDTH) is causing huge inconvenience to patients as even old and the infirm are forced to use stairs. The CD Hospital Jammu which was constructed in year 1955, has more than two hundred bed capacity in the four storey building, which is on right side of administrative block. Manik Sharma, the attendant of a 95 year old patient said "Due to absence of ramp facilities, I had to shift my grandfather to ward number 1 on my shoulders but while shifting the pipe inserted into their chest came out, causing pain and panic to my grandfather". Explaining the pathetic condition in hospital he further said that the doctors recommended for X-ray test. "I was shocked to hear from a hospital employee that potable X-ray machine had gone kaput", he claimed. Another attendant said that his father admitted in the hospital was unable to sit but there was no English seat in the toilets, making it impossible for his father to answer nature's call. "In the name of basic facilities there is nothing, it is also questionable that how such faulty building was passed by the Inspection committee", a Doctor pleading anonymity said. Medical Superintended of CD and TB hospital Dr. Manoj Chalotra said that personally he had forwarded proposals for construction of ramps in the building to higher authorities, four times. "We have proposed that the estimated cost of constructing ramp facility will be Rs. 20 Lakh but so far no approval from higher ups has come", he said. |
