Early Times Report

JAMMU, Oct 5: Contrary to the claims of State Government, anger mounting in mountainous districts of Poonch and Rajouri because authorities have failed to provide adequate relief to the flood and rain affected families of these two districts. Not only Poonch and Rajouri, residents of other hilly regions of Jammu namely Udhampur, Reasi and Ramban districts are also feeling neglected as far as relief and rehabilitation operations are concerned.
While as the NGOs and other social organisations have confined their activities only to Srinagar and to some extent in Jammu districts only to get publicity, activities of state government is also confined only to summer capital. No doubt that Srinagar city is badly affected by the floods, hilly areas of Jammu region also faced wrath of nature's fury.
As far as lost of lives and properties is concerned, Poonch and Rajouri districts are the worst cases because these two neglected districts faced worst effect of floods and torrential rains.
Neither adequate relief has been so far reached in these two districts nor the authorities have so far disbursed ex-gratia to families of those who have lost their lives in the floods.
The State Government has been claiming that effective steps have been taken to provide relief to the flood affected families all over the state but it appears these steps were confined only to summer capital because many people whose houses were damaged in rains still have taken shelter in the public buildings.
In Poonch and Rajouri district, it was difficult to get even tents because these who were rendered homeless by the rains and floods have been moving from pillar to posts to get tents but of no avail.
Local residents have reasons to express their anger because their representatives have failed to effectively take up their issues before the government.
