Jammu, Oct 5: The Kashmir Administrative Services (KAS) preliminary exam, which was schedule to be held on October 12 and was postponed due to devastating floods in Kashmir valley, is likely to be held in the mid of November month.
Sources in the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission informed Early Times that the exam was scheduled to be held on October 12, but due to devastating floods in Kashmir valley, majority of colleges, where the exam centers were to be set up by authorities were inundated.
An official of JKPSC said that the exam centers for preliminary were generally set up in Government Degree Colleges which were in the heart of Srinagar city. "Majority of colleges submerged in floods and even today some of them are still in water, where even routine college work is not being held", he said, adding that the main problem before PSC was the availability of space for setting up of examination centers.
The JKPSC authorities had flashed a message on their official website about postponement of exams, but the rescheduled date for conducting KAS (preliminary) exams was not announced, which left aspirants in a fix.
An aspirant from Jammu city said that, they have been getting unconfirmed reports, that preliminary exams would be held in January but there was no word from JKPSC authorities.
A higher official of JKPSC said that though the date for conducting of preliminary exams has not been finalized but it would take nearly one month for PSC to get assessment of space in college in Srinagar city.
"Most probably, the preliminary exam will be held in mid November and there will no further delay", he said.
Pertinently, JKPSC had invited applications for the KAS (Preliminary) Exam (J&K Combined Competitive (Preliminary) Examination) 2014 and aspirants were given time till June 12 to fill the application forms for a total of 51 posts.
The 51 posts included Junior Scale of J&K Administrative Service 33 posts, J&K Police (G) Service16 posts, J&K Accounts (G) Service, two posts and preliminary exam was scheduled to be held on October 12.
