| PSC faces death by default | | Only members set to superannuate next month | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 5 : Fizzling out the hyped 'fast track' recruitment process of the Omar government, J&K state Public Service Commission; the premier recruiting agency of the state that has been entrusted with the responsibility of recruiting candidates against gazetted posts in the state is likely to be extinct as the only member of the Commission is set to retire next month. According to official sources barring one member all other eight members including chairman of the commission have completed their five year term in office but no fresh faces have been nominated to run the day to day business of the commission. Discord between the alliance partners has created piquant situation as they failed to evolve consensus on the names of PSC members. At present one Deputy Secretary Parvez Raina is running the show all alone himself. The lone member KB Jandial is set to retire in November 2014. PSC Chairman SL Bhat retired on September 10, 2014 while he was stranded inside his residence submerged in flood waters.Due to unprecedented circumstances he too failed to handover the charge to sitting member. Another member Masood Samoon completed his term in the month of August 2014. Additional secretary Riaz Ahmad serving PSC was shifted after he was transferred in Febraury 2014.Secretary of the commission T Kumar went on deputation to the cenre in May 2014 and in his place the govt has not appointed any one till date, official sources said. With Assembly elections due in the coming months the state govt runs the risk of annoying thousands of aspirants who have applied for thousands of posts advertised by the commission. It remains to be seen whether the state govt would wake up from its deep slumber and find a way out to nominate new members or allow the PSC to shut its doors. |
