Daily wagers, low rank employees pushed to wall without salaries | | | Shakeel a Khan
SRINAGAR, Oct: There seems to be no let up in the miseries faced by the lower rank employees of the valley since they have been deprived of their salaries at a time when floods have already broken their backs. Be it the Aanganwari worker or the daily wagers of the different departments, the authorities have turned blind eye towards these down trodden people. With Eid Ul Azha falling on Monday, the Srinagar markets wear a deserted look as people have not been paid their salaries and have little savings for the Eid shopping. "The top ranking officials have no problems of money, but for the employees like me, it is becoming increasingly difficult to meet expenses of the family after floods" said Abdul Rashid , a daily wager in the PHE department. With anguish and hopelessness written large on his face, Rashid narrates the story of common people in Srinagar. "The businesses have suffered heavy losses due to floods and common people have been left with broken houses and all their valuables ruined" he said. "Government should have done everything to give us salary on the priority basis as we have been facing untold miseries due to pressing crunch" said a daily wager of education department, wishing anonymity. The economic experts say that going by the post flood situation in the Valley, it getting tougher and tougher as far as the poor lot is concerned and if the government fails to come to their timely rescue, poor including the daily wagers of the government would be left to face difficult times. |
