| Air India flight gives jitters to passengers, window half-open | | | Sandeep Bhat
JAMMU, Oct 26: Believe it or not but it is hundred percent true that the Air India flight number AI 821 from Jammu to Srinagar on October 20 was not properly checked by the maintenance staff or those who are responsible for the safety and security of the passengers.
When this correspondent travelled on October 20 by Air India flight number AI 821 at 1 pm, he was sitting in 9f seat which was allotted to this correspondent on boarding pass .It was a window seat and initially, this correspondent as usual fasten his seat belt and was waiting for the plane to fly .After 15 min, this correspondent found the inner window half open, actually there are two windows, one is outer one and second inner one, but to the surprise of this correspondent and other passengers sitting besides find, inner window not properly closed.
It was the responsibility of the Air India staff to check properly everything inside aircraft before flying as it is the question of safety of passengers, though there is outer window, but if any mishap happens, who is responsible. Actually, the windows of aircraft as per norms and rules should be airtight and in no circumstances, it should remain open or half open. There is no system in Aircraft to open or close the glass windows, it should be permanently closed or air tight.
This correspondent later brought this matter to the notice of flight steward of aircraft, who initially said, nothing to worry but later he acknowledged the lapse on the part of maintenance wing and he apologized .This is not a question of saying sorry but it is a serious breach on the part of Air India and those who are responsible should be taken to task, after all it is the matter of hundreds and thousands of people who travel through this airline or others, safety should be the priority.
Talking to this correspondent, Miss India who was travelling in this aircraft, said she also had bitter experience in past and most of the people travelling through other private airlines. She further said the air hostess and ground staff of Air India preferably ladies staff, they never give u smile or talk with courtesy, they behave in such a manner as if we are travelling free. She was also scared seeing window not properly closed .The question here is when there is double triple checking and frisking of passengers in the name of security, then why not proper checking of aircraft as it is the matter of precious lives which every day travel, this should be taken seriously as the safety is utmost important. |
