Lal Singh ratifies his ideological transformation | Accuses Nehru-Sheikh for Kashmir imbroglio | | Sanjay Pathak / Kunal Shrivatsa
KATHUA, Oct 26: In an ideological somersault, the former Member of Parliament (MP) and senior Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) leader Lal Singh while launching a scathing attack on first Prime Minister of India Jawahar Lal Nehru and former Chief Minister of the state Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah said Monday that both were responsible for ruining the state of J&K. Coming out openly on a BJP platform for the first time following his entry into the party in August last after quitting Congress, the senior BJP leader Lal Singh minced no words in putting blame of all ills affecting the state on Nehru and Sheikh Abdullah as he vociferously said that both the leaders pursued such policies which led to creation of Kashmir problem. Ever since Lal Singh joined BJP, the senior leader had mostly restricted himself at his residence and whatever political activity he was into had been pursued from his house which led to speculations that though he had changed the party but was unable to mould his heart and mind for the new setup. However, in complete contrast to his past party affiliation and political partnerships, Lal Singh's outbursts against Nehru and Sheikh Abdullah, presented him in a totally new 'avtar', who went all guns blazing against both the veterans of Indian polity while addressing a gathering in a function organized by District Kathua BJP to observe "Accession Day" at Mukherji Chowk in Kathua. Lal Singh said, "The vexed Kashmir issue was the outcome of Nehru's policy paralysis and shortsightedness…. His (Nehru) association with Sheikh Abdullah proved fatal for the country as the duo compromised with the national security…They are responsible for the present crisis in Kashmir." On the other hand, Lal Singh was all praise for veteran RSS ideologue Shyama Prasad Mukherji, for his contribution in unifying J&K with the Indian Union. Singh while remembering Mukherji for sacrificing his life for the complete unification of J&K with the Union of India lamented that such national heroes never get recognition from successive Congress and National Conference (NC) governments in state as well as union governments led by Congress. "It is a pity that not even a small piece of land was provided by the State government to install a statue of Shyama Prasad Mukherji who sacrificed his life while struggling for complete unification of J&K with the rest of the country…States like Punjab are better than us as it recognized the supreme sacrifice of Mukherji and established his statue," maintained Singh. Hitting out at successive state governments led primarily by NC and Congress, the senior BJP leader said that they fail to usher development and prosperity in the state due to which the economic condition of the state is still not satisfactory. He further said that ruling class of the state has always misused Article 370 which grants special status to J&K. "What benefits did a common man get from Article 370…..Special Status to the state bore no fruits as we are way behind in terms of development in comparison to the neighboring states of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab," said Singh. |
