Is Shabnam Lone joining BJP? | Setback to separatists | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 26: Is the Supreme Court lawyer, daughter of the slain protagonist of Kashmir's independence Abdul Gani Lone, sister of well-known India-baiters and separatists Bilal Lone and Sajjad Lone -- author of Achievable Nationhood -- and a bitter critic of the Indian presence in Kashmir, Shabnam Lone, joining the BJP? Why this question, which would appear quite strange to her supporters and critics, at this point in time? Why because she has taken a stand on the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Kashmir on the Diwali day which is not consistent with the one taken by the Kashmiri separatists like Syed Ali Shah Geelani and the Congress party. The stand she took must have surprised many in Kashmir for the simple reason that her support for the Prime Minister's visit to Kashmir was just unflinching. Shabnam Lone has said many things. She didn't mince words. Indeed, it was wonderful to hear her and her very convincing counter arguments against Congress spokesperson and son of JKPCC president Saif-ud-Din Soz, Salman Soz, and NC provincial president Devender Rana, who not only cut a sorry figure while defending the indefensible, but were also left with no other option but to fall in line. So much so, the visibly perturbed and shaken Congress and NC leaders virtually spoke the language of Shabnam Lone. It is hardly necessary to reflect on what the cornered Soz and Rana said. Suffice to say that they completely surrendered and virtually yielded before the forceful and convincing Shabnam Lone. Lambasting the Congress and others who had condemned as politically-motivated Prime Minister Modi's Kashmir visit, Shabnan Lone said that the Prime Minister didn't undertake the Kashmir's visit for political gains and that it was simply calculated to share the pain and agony of the flood-ravaged people of Kashmir and reassure them that he and his government and the entire nation were with them in this time of crisis. "Mr Modi visited the Valley not for political gains but to understand the prevailing situation in the Valley and listen to the woeful tales of the flood-affected people. Prime Minister Mr Modi should give relief to the affected people directly and not through the NC-Congress government. It's relief and rehabilitation work that is more important and not the dirty politics over the calamity and tragedy. The Rs 44,000 crore proposal as submitted by the State government could not be implemented in one go. The Prime Minister should give relief directly to the flood victims, and not through the corrupt State government. Thank you, Prime Minister Mr Modi Sahib for the concern you have shown to the flood victims". She, among other things, said. That Shabnam Lone said what she said indicates a great change in her attitude towards New Delhi. But more than that, her suggestion that the Prime Minister should ensure that relief reaches the affected directly constituted a big snub to those who under the garb of federal principles wanted to keep the Union Government out of the loop as far as distribution of relief among the needy was concerned. All this should serve to indicate her inclination towards the BJP. Interestingly, there were reports that some top BJP leaders had tried to rope in Bilal Lone. It appears there is some understanding between the brother and the sister and between them and some top BJP leaders. |
