About 700 companies of security forces being deployed for ensuring incident free polls in J&K
10/27/2014 12:05:01 AM
Jammu, Oct 26 : Since polling days in the Assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir have been reduced from seven to five more than 700 companies of security forces are needed to ensure incident free election. Official sources said that the Union Home Ministry has, hitherto, decided to deploy 600 companies of paramilitary forces for the poll bound Jammu and Kashmir. However the state authorities want at least 700 companies of paramilitary forces to be deployed for ensuring a peaceful election.Sources said that the Election Commission has suggested to the concerned authorities to keep the Army on the standby in highly sensitive areas of the state. According to these sources, additional companies of troops are likely to be deployed on the LOC and on the IB in Jammu and Kashmir for preventing ingress of militants. This step is being taken after the Intelligence agencies have conveyed to the Government of India that agencies across the LOC and the IB, including the Army and Pak Rangers, were trying to push groups of militants into Jammu and Kashmir for raising the level of violence which was needed for separatists to enforce their call for poll boycott. The Election Commission has identified about 60 per cent polling stations which fall in hypersensitive category and over 25 per cent polling booths falling in sensitive category warranting heavy deployment of security forces. Sources said that the five-phase polling has been decided to facilitate shifting of security forces from one area, where the polling has been completed, to the other. However, since the election is to take place in winter season it would be difficult for the companies of security forces to move from one areas to the other quickly.
This the reason that the state authorities want additional and adequate companies of paramilitary forces for keeping a watch on potential mischief mongers.
