Some of the MLAs as well as the potential aspirants whose tickets have been denied by the Party have even warned to contest as independents or on the ticket of rival parties come what may be the poll outcome. They also blamed the BJP leadership of betrayal. Party sitting MLA from Bani master Lal Chand who had already accepted not to contest the Assembly poll this time in view of his poor health conditions has however shown his annoyance of not consulting him or senior BJP leaders of the constituency while giving the mandate. He said that there is a lot of resentment in Bani Assembly segment after the Party ignored the loyal leaders and considered the outsiders for the ticket. He warned to contest elections on his own without caring for the outcome of results. Some more sitting MLAs including Bharat Bushan, Prof Garu Ram, Baldev Raj Sharma, Durga Dass and Jagdish Raj Sapolia are also unhappy over the decision and some of them may not hesitate in joining the rival parties or contest the elections as independents to create problems for BJP candidates. "Already a stigma has been attached with us after being blamed for indulging in cross-voting. Later, the party took us back in its fold with an assurance that we are the backbone of the party. Now it has thrown us out," said Baldev Sharma, whose Reasi seat has gone to Ajay Nanda. Baldev quit the party and has called a meet of his followers at Katra on Tuesday to chalk out future course of action. "Now, it is no BJP for me. Tomorrow, I will take decision with my workers and activists and announce my candidature," said Baldev. He said he would contest the elections, and if not as an independent, he would not be averse to joining any strong regional party of the state. Another miffed MLA Bharat Bhushan of Raipur Domana said the party had already lost its foothold by denying tickets to seven sitting MLAs, its tally will be just 4+ now. "Bali Bhagat, who is alien, has been given mandate here. He is a failure entity from Kishtwar who knows no ground reality of the 325 villages falling under my constituency. What party intends to do is out of my imagination," said Bharat Bhushan. He has kept his doors open for new political journey and may contest polls from other party. State Secretary Pawan Kumar Gupta along with Mandal pradhans and their activists today quit the party and decided to contest election as independent candidate. He has already contested from their two times and lost with narrow margins. Over 2000 activists and supporters of Pawan Gupta attended the rally and showed total solidarity with him. The protestors raising slogans in support of Gupta assured full support to him. Discontent within the BJP in Jammu and Kashmir over selection of candidates for the assembly polls came to the fore on Mondaywith a group of supporters of the state unit secretary Yudhvir Sethi staging a protest outside the party office here, alleging a conspiracy behind the denial of party tickets to prominent leaders. Sethi was hopeful to contest the assembly elections from the Jammu East seat. Yudhvir Sethi while putting the blame straight on Ashok Khajuria, MLA East, said, "Ashok Khajuria being the member of the selection committee had openly said in the meet that since he (Khajuria) is not being considered from his constituency, Yudhveer Sethi should also be denied the ticket," alleged Sethi. "Not only the front-runners have been ignored but also the mandate has given to the third and fourth rung leaders. I have been working for the party for the past 23 years, but they have denied me ticket," said Sethi. Addressing media persons here today he said state president BJP, Jugal kishore Sharma had nexus with Panthers party. He added that earlier Jugal was managing alliance of party with Delhi being a mediator and when he failed to do so he managed mandate for Pawan Khauria indirectly helping panthers to win election as Khajuria is a weak candidate in Udhampur. Meanwhile hundreds of supporters of Gupta today protested against the non-allotment of the BJP ticket to him who had contested elections from the Udhampur Assembly segment twice. "The Party has replaced the seniors by the Juniors as well as the newcomers for the reason best known to the main leaders of BJP only", they added. Prof. Nirmal Singh , senior leader BJP when contacted by Early Times said, " the mandate was announced after a consensus made by the opinion of district and State BJP" and "all the 6 expelled MLA's are dropped from the Elections even after joining back to BJP as to give a lesson to other leaders," he added.
