Kupwara, Nov 3 : Kupwara Assembly constituency will see a multifaceted contest in the elections with strong contenders of National Conference (NC) and People's Democratic Party (PDP) facing a serious challenge from Peoples Conference (PC) . The constituency the last one to go to polls from the Valley has been a stronghold of NC, with the party having won the seat three times in the past. In 2008, Mir Saifullah was declared winner. Both times, however, the party had faced serious challenge from PC,and the other major regional pro-India party in the Valley. PDP's Mir Fayaz was the runner-up in 2008 assembly polls as he bagged 11514 votes less than NC and greater than PC chairman's Sister Shabnum Gani lone independent candidate, and in the last assembly election, PDP's Fayaz Ahmad Mir was the runner-up to Mir Saifullah with a difference of 5182 votes. While difference between the parties' vote share has only increased in the past, the two regional bigwigs of Kashmiri's pro-India politics are locked in a tougher competition this election. All the three PC, NC and PDP have fielded strong candidates in Kupwara. Trusting the abilities and reputation of Mir Saifullah, NC's choice for the contest in Kupwara has remained unchanged. PDP has given mandate to Fayaz Ahmad Mir, preferring one of its most trusted faces over other choices it had.Mir Fayaz from Headquarter of Kupwara district and People's conference has given mandate to renowned Advocate Bashir Ahmad Dar. Between the parties, therefore, it is the competition between PC, PDP and the sitting MLA of NC. |
