NDA ally LJP to contest election in J&K independently | | | Majid Nabi
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 3: The Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), formally announced to contest the upcoming general Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir independently the decision of which is likely to be taken in parties Parliamentary Board meeting today. Addressing media persons here, LJP President, and Union Food Minister, Ram Vilas Paswan said "the party is in alliance with BJP in centre and not in the state so after accessing the ground situation, LJP has decided to contest the forthcoming elections independently". Paswan said that the final call on the matter will taken in LJP's Parliamentary Board meeting slated to be held at LJP office here this evening. "Keeping in view the growing public demand and people friendly efforts of LJP, National Youth President Sanjay Saraf, the party has decided to field Saraf from Habbakadal assembly constituency. I want to make it clear here as to why the party has decided to contest independently is because the ruling National Conference (NC) has miserably failed to deliver on ground and I want to provide an alternative to the people of Jammu and Kashmir," said Paswan. He said that the party contested the state elections independently despite having alliance with United Progressive Alliance (UPA). "We will fight together wherever we feel possible as we are doing in Jharkhand but as far as the Habbakadal constituency is concerned we had already thorough deliberations with the BJP President Amit Shah, over the issue so there should be no doubt that our party will contest elections independently from Habbakadal," he added. Replying to a question about the Centre supplying food grains to the state based on the 2001 Census, the Union minister said the state government should implement the Food Security Act and then the ration would be given according to the 2011 Census. "So far only 11 states have implemented the act, we have given six months time to all the states for its implementation and Jammu and Kashmir state is not among them," Regarding mass graves issue Paswan said "the issue of mass graves is really serious but right now I am holding Food portfolio and think that the time is not appropriate to comment on it." |
